In short: this site collects anonymous, aggregate analytics by default — which UK law permits without consent, and which you can switch off at any time. Session recordings run only if you opt in. No ads, no marketing cookies, no forms and your data is never sold.

I use Google Analytics 4 (via Google Tag Manager) to understand which projects people find interesting. This runs by default, without asking for consent. Since February 2026, UK law (the statistical purposes exception in PECR, introduced by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025) permits analytics cookies without consent where they're used solely to collect aggregate statistics about how a site is used in order to improve it — which is exactly and only what I do. My Google Analytics is configured for this sole purpose: no advertising features, no Google Signals, no ad links. What's collected: which pages you visit and how far you scroll, clicks on the "Email me" button, your browser and device type, and your approximate location (country/city level) derived from your IP address — Google Analytics does not log or store the IP address itself. You can object at any time using the cookie icon in the corner of any page, or the banner on your first visit. If you do, analytics cookies are deleted and no new ones are set. Google's system may still receive basic, cookie-free technical signals (used only for aggregate modelling), which identify neither you nor your device across visits. The legal basis for this processing is my legitimate interest in understanding and improving this site (UK GDPR, Article 6(1)(f)); the cookie itself is set under the PECR statistical purposes exception rather than consent.
If you switch on "Session recordings" in the cookie preferences, I use Microsoft Clarity to record anonymised sessions and heatmaps, so I can see where the site confuses people. This never runs by default. If you opt in, Clarity records page interactions (clicks, scrolls, mouse movement) and sets its own cookies; Microsoft processes this data on my behalf. The legal basis is your consent (UK GDPR, Article 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time via the cookie icon — recordings stop and you can carry on browsing.
There are no advertising or marketing cookies on this site.
This site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. To deliver pages and protect against attacks, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address as part of serving the site (legitimate interest). I don't use this to identify individual visitors.
The "Email me" buttons open your own email app — there are no contact forms on this site. If you choose to email me, I'll receive your email address, name and message, and I'll use them only to reply to you. You won't be added to any mailing list.
Analytics event data is retained for 14 months and then deleted automatically. Google may process analytics data on servers outside the UK and EEA, including in the United States, under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and its UK extension. If you opt in to session recordings, Microsoft processes Clarity data, which may include transfers outside the UK and EEA under equivalent safeguards.
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the use of your personal data, to object to its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these, email me at [email protected].
If you're unhappy with how I've handled your data, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
For analytics specifically, the simplest way to object is the cookie icon on any page, no email needed.
